Senior Manager, Data Engineering

• Location: Hybrid, 2 days/week in Amsterdam office
• Duration: 3 months initially (possible extension)
• Rate: €165 per hour (40 hours per week)

About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Manager of Data Engineering to lead and shape the data engineering function in a data-driven organization. You will drive strategic direction, provide technical mentorship, and ensure delivery of robust, scalable, and high-quality data solutions. You will collaborate closely with technology and business leaders, guide your teams, and champion data governance and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor data engineering teams, fostering skills development and closing knowledge gaps.
• Translate business requirements into logical and physical data models, pipelines, and architectures.
• Ensure reliability, scalability, and accuracy of data pipelines and platforms.
• Define SLIs/SLOs and monitor data systems performance, ensuring compliance with governance and operational standards.
• Drive adoption of best practices, emerging technologies, and tools across the data engineering organization.
• Support cross-team collaboration to identify efficiencies and leverage opportunities across projects.

Required Skills & Experience

• Proven experience in senior data engineering leadership roles.
• Deep expertise in data modeling, pipelines, and platform design for both batch and streaming systems.
• Strong knowledge of software engineering best practices and scalable architecture principles.
• Experience implementing data governance, quality, and compliance processes.
• Excellent leadership, mentoring, and stakeholder communication skills.
• Ability to strategically plan, prioritize, and deliver in complex, multi-project environments.
