Senior Machine Learning Scientist – GenAI Applications

About the Role An international, data-driven technology organisation is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Scientist to join its GenAI Applications team within a large-scale Data & AI function.
This team designs and delivers agentic, ML-powered solutions for high-impact, customer-facing digital products, including search experiences, planning tools, and intelligent assistants. The role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge Generative AI applications that operate at significant scale and directly influence end-user experiences.
What You’ll Be Doing

  • Researching, designing, and developing machine learning and Generative AI solutions for production environments
  • Applying state-of-the-art techniques across LLMs, NLP, Computer Vision, recommendation systems, and agent-based architectures
  • Training, fine-tuning, and evaluating ML models using large, complex datasets
  • Defining success metrics and leading structured experimentation to measure impact
  • Conducting detailed data analysis, including model performance evaluation, label quality assessment, and feature exploration
  • Writing clean, scalable, and reusable code and contributing to shared ML frameworks
  • Collaborating closely with ML Engineers to ensure models meet latency, throughput, and production requirements
  • Working cross-functionally with product, engineering, and analytics teams to translate business problems into ML solutions
  • Communicating insights, results, and trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders

What We’re Looking For Experience & Education

  • MSc with 3+ years of relevant industry experience or PhD with 2+ years of experience
  • Advanced academic or commercial experience applying machine learning to real-world business problems
  • Degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, AI, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related quantitative field
  • Evidence of research impact (e.g. publications, patents, open-source contributions) is advantageous

Technical Skills

  • Strong expertise in Machine Learning and Generative AI at scale
  • Advanced knowledge of Natural Language Processing and Computer Vision
  • Experience working across multiple ML disciplines, including:
    • Large-scale data processing
    • Model development and optimisation
    • Statistics and experimentation
    • Data visualisation
    • Software engineering best practices
  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • Python
    • Java
    • SQL
    • Spark or similar big data technologies
    • Kafka, Hadoop, or equivalent platforms
  • Experience using version control systems (e.g. Git)

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally with engineers, product managers, analysts, and UX specialists
  • Strong communication skills in English (written and verbal)
  • Experience driving technical initiatives that improve product quality, performance, and productivity
  • Comfortable mentoring others, providing constructive feedback, and leading by example
